A canoe is a small and lightweight boat that is pointed at
both ends and propelled with paddles. The number of paddles
and paddlers depends on the size of canoe. The paddlers
either can sit on supports or kneeling on the frame of
canoes. These canoes are used for various types of
activities such as birding, fishing, photography, camping
and river rafting. There are mainly three types of canoes:

Recreational canoes- This type of canoe is designed for
calm waters. They are very stable in the water and easy to
paddle. As a result they are also very fun. These canoes
are used for many things such as bird watching, taking
pictures and fishing.

Versatile canoes- This type of canoe is designed for use in
calm lakes as well as whitewater. They have great
maneuverability and are larger than recreational canoes.
Versatile canoes are perfect for canoe camping trips.

There are different kinds of styles of canoes. The
materials they are made of are of different quality. One
chooses one type of canoe or another depending on what
one wants to do with it. They are mainly made of four
different materials.

Canoes come in many types and styles. They are also
constructed from many different materials. They type of
canoe a person chooses depends on what he wants to do
with the canoe. Canoes are constructed with four different
materials. Wood, aluminum, plastic and fiber. Some
materials are better than others depending on what the
canoe will be used for. What the canoe is built out of
effects its toughness, performance, weight and price.

Wood canoes

Traditionally canoes were designed and made up of wood such
as birchbark, dugout, cedar-plank sided, or any other type
of wood. There are several types of wood canoes but primary
and common ones are cedar strip and wood canvas. These
cedar strip canoes are made out of edge glued strips of
cedar wood and wood canvas hulls have a wood frame which is
skinned with painted canvas. Wood allows making very
complex hull shapes and because of their unique shape they
deliver enhanced performance. Their weight is however, not
ideal like that of modern canoes and they require more care
and maintenance than modern canoes.

Aluminium canoes

Canoes of this type are cheap and less expensive
because of the low cost of aluminum.Their ends cannot be
streamlined and they are also somehow heavy. These
canoes get dents and can easily get stuck on rocks quite a
lot. If a canoe of this kind is dented,
it will not be able to be moved. They also
require care and maintenance.

Plastics canoes

Plastic canoes are much more slippery than Aluminum
canoes and do not get stuck on rocks as easily. However
they are not as stiff as other materials. They cannot hold
complex shapes or be streamlined so well. This makes them
slower than when compared to wood or fiberglass canoes.

Fiber Canoes

These canoes are very strong and resistant to damage from
rocks and extreme temperatures. Fiber canoes are also easy
to repair when they do get damaged. They are a perfect
choice for rough whitewater rafting and require very little
maintenance.
